Tropical Malady
Apichatpong Weerasethakul · 2004
Weerasethakul splits his narrative into a daylight romance and a nocturnal jungle hunt, forcing the viewer to read the second half as the mythic substrate of the first. Like the bifurcated Sartaj/Gaitonde structure, the film argues that civic life rests atop an older spiritual reckoning that periodically erupts through it.
