Armah's unnamed clerk walks through a Nkrumah-era Ghana where independence has soured into kleptocracy, the air thick with the smell of decay and unkept promises. Astatke recorded this in New York with Latin and jazz musicians, a young Ethiopian arranger insisting his country's pentatonic modes could swing inside Manhattan studios without losing their highland weight. Dub Colossus extends precisely this experiment, swapping Astatke's Latin chassis for Jamaican dub plates while keeping the same modal compass pointing toward Addis.

Co-produced with Studio 4°C and adapted from Robin Nishi's manga, the film cycles through death, rebirth, and ecstatic bass-driven escape inside a whale's belly, its animation morphing register every few frames. Its rhythmic plasticity, where every scene is a remix of itself, is the visual cousin of dub's insistence that the same song can be reborn endlessly through processing.
