Both works treat the Balkan conflict as a carnival where the music never stops because stopping would force acknowledgment.

The miniseries documents Marines whose tactical missions dissolve into absurd waiting, embedded journalists scribbling beside men who cannot articulate why they are killing. Like Tanović's trench, the desert becomes a theater where command, media, and combatant occupy the same impossible square meter.
