Solaris

An observer from Earth becomes mired in the medieval filth of an alien planet, his scientific detachment dissolving into helpless complicity. The film shares Tarkovsky's conviction that contact with the alien is contact with our own untransfigured nature, the gaze inevitably returning to the watcher.

Sharing Solaris's tempo of slow erosion, the series watches consciousness encounter its own obsolescence, the alien here being the post-human residue of one's own civilization.
